Books, Butterflies, and Belly Laughs: A Children’s Day Full of
 Possibility

There were no tiny schoolbags or paper crowns. No cartoon-themed decorations. And yet, this Children’s Day at WinVinaya Foundation was one of the most joy-filled celebrations we’ve had not because of how young our learners are, but because of how alive their inner child still is.

Because who says childhood ends at 18?

The Book Wave Begins

The day opened not with a song or a speech, but with a story or rather, many stories, beautifully tied together through the Book Wave session led by Parmeeth, a former WinVinaya student.

He didn’t come to teach a lesson. He came to share wonder.

With a calm presence and expressive signing, Parmeeth walked everyone through metaphors from the books he’d read:

● A river that flows past boulders, detours, and dams, just like us
● A caterpillar that doesn’t rush but transforms in its own time
● A tree that stays rooted but keeps growing upward

Each metaphor landed not just in minds, but in hearts. Parmeeth’s storytelling wasn’t just a reminder of nature’s beauty, it was a mirror for every person in the room who has overcome, adapted, and kept moving forward.

The session ended with an oath:
Read two pages every day.
Just two. Not as homework, but as a promise to keep learning, reflecting, and dreaming.

Joy, Movement, and Laughter

The stillness of the reading session quickly gave way to movement, lots of it.

A dance circle broke out, with learners and trainers moving freely to rhythms they felt more than heard. There was no need for lyrics, just energy and shared delight.

Then came the dictionary games, a hilarious round of word acting where teams guessed, signed or acted out clues. One moment someone was a wild animal, the next a confused emoji. The loudest thing in the room? Laughter.

In one unforgettable round, learners took turns acting out their coworkers, respectfully, of course. Everyone laughed, including those being imitated. It was the kind of warm, inside joke moment that says: “We see each other. We belong.”

The Butterfly Effect

Throughout the day, the metaphor of the butterfly lingered.

Like caterpillars, many of our learners have spent parts of their lives misunderstood, underestimated, or overlooked. But inside spaces like WinVinaya where communication is accessible and every learner is supported something beautiful happens.

They stretch. They shed doubt. They begin to fly.

This Children’s Day wasn’t about nostalgia. It was about honoring the childlike spark that never left the part of us that still wants to play, to learn, to dance, and to believe that change is possible.

A Bigger Mission, One Joyful Moment at a Time

At WinVinaya Foundation, our work goes beyond training. It’s about shaping ecosystems where Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), especially Deaf and hard-of-hearing learners, find language, belonging, and joy.

Celebrations like these aren’t just fun days. They’re essential.
They build connections.
They boost confidence.
And they remind us that inclusion is also about play, not just policy.

What We Took Away

Books reminded us that our stories are still being written.
Butterflies reminded us that growth takes time.
And belly laughs reminded us that joy, real, unfiltered joy, is a language we all share.

Happy Children’s Day from all of us at WinVinaya Foundation.
Whether you’re 8 or 80, may you always keep reading, growing, and laughing.
